Can the CIO also become a Cost Innovation Officer to his office?
   •  Can Innovations reduce costs? and if yes then can IT innovations influence productivity/ efficiency?
   •  Is Telecommuting a socially acceptable reality or a technology dream?
   •  Are Indian organizations ready for green IT practices, so that Energy Efficiency reduce costs?

The IT and communications revolution is changing character. The shift from invention to innovation is profound, and requires an equally profound change in the roles and responsibilities of the corporation’s top technology executive, the Chief Information Officer.
Until recently, the CIO’s chief responsibility has been to manage the enterprise’s technology infrastructure and improve productivity; however, the IT organization’s value is shifting which is moving the CIO beyond his traditional role.

The consequence: the CIO’s new role extends far beyond that of technologist. Amongst others he has to transform himself from a reactive cost-cutter to a proactive advocate of Opex & capex savings.

For the CIO today has to look at innovations which help him cut costs not just perhaps through direct but also indirect routes. For e.g. can the CIO today look at technologies or strategies which encourage telecommuting and therefore reduced costs?

Another question is that should the CTO pay attention only to computers & information services within his organization?? Or should he also start worrying about spaces which might not affect him directly but effects his company, which however can also enhance the position of IT in the organization that he works in, spaces like the cafeteria (where IT can help in controlling the power management, fans, lights etc), the cooling systems (therefore conditioning the breathing space within an organization) etc

The question is Will IT lead, or follow, the coming change?
